Justin Rose turned back the clock in spectacular fashion this past weekend, claiming a dominant seven-stroke victory at the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open while rewriting the record books at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California.
The 45-year-old Englishman finished at 23-under par (265), breaking the tournament scoring record previously shared by Tiger Woods (1999) and George Burns (1987) at 22-under. More remarkably, Rose became the first wire-to-wire winner at Torrey Pines since Tommy Bolt accomplished the feat nearly seven decades ago in 1955.
Rose set the tone from the opening round, firing a blistering 10-under-par 62 on the North Course on Thursday to grab a one-stroke lead over American Justin Lower. He never looked back. By the time Saturday concluded, Rose had extended his advantage to a commanding four strokes over Ireland's Seamus Power, and his final-round 2-under 70 on the challenging South Course was more than enough to seal the victory.
The margin of victory was so convincing that Rose became the oldest player to win a PGA Tour event by at least six shots since Sam Snead accomplished the feat in 1961. Three players shared second place at 16-under par: Pierceson Coody, Si Woo Kim, and Ryo Hisatsune, each taking home $726,400 from the $9.6 million purse.
For Rose, who described the week as his most complete tee-to-green performance in recent memory, the victory represented a triumphant return to form. He had missed the cut in his only other 2026 start at The American Express and had failed to make the weekend in both PGA Tour events at Torrey Pines during the 2025 season.
This marks Rose's second Farmers Insurance Open title, having previously captured the trophy in 2019, and his 13th career PGA Tour victory overall. That tally makes him the winningest Englishman in PGA Tour history, surpassing Nick Faldo by four titles.
The victory carried significant implications for Rose's world ranking. He jumped from 10th to third in the Official World Golf Ranking, becoming the second-oldest player to occupy a top-three position. Rose also collected 500 FedEx Cup points and 57.6 Official World Golf Ranking points, along with the winner's check of $1,728,000.
The tournament featured 144 competitors, with 74 making it through the 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties. Despite the strong field, no one could mount a serious challenge to Rose's dominance.
Rose's performance stands as a testament to the enduring quality of his game and serves as inspiration for veteran players everywhere. At an age when many professionals are contemplating the Champions Tour, Rose demonstrated that elite-level golf remains well within his grasp.
The PGA Tour now moves on to the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale, where defending FedEx Cup champion Scottie Scheffler headlines the field. But the golfing world will be watching to see if Rose can carry this momentum forward as the season progresses toward the major championships.
